Episode 2.10: Lazy Readers II – The Elitists Strike Back

May 20, 2010 under Podcasts

The sequel to Episode 68 of the Drawerbox, we revisit the concept of a Lazy Reader and how comic fans can be blamed for the woes of the industry. From the 11 o’clock message boards to Steve Harris on Twitter, the concept of Lazy Readers rears its ugly head once more. Also more Supershow talk, a return to DCBS, FCBD 2010, IRON MAN 2, and finally the BLACK PANTHER cartoon that we’re still waiting to see in America… well most of us. And finally we wrap up with a RECENT READS segment that includes my personal history with SAVAGE DRAGON, and what I’ve thought of Erik Larsen over the years, DOCTOR WHO: TIME MACHINATIONS (IDW), CHEW Vol 1 TPB (Image), BRAVE AND THE BOLD #33 (DC), MIGHTY AVENGERS #36 (final issue,Marvel), SIEGE #4 (Marvel), DARK AVENGERS 16 (Marve, final issue), FLASH #1 (DC), S.H.I.E.L.D #1 (Marvel), RICHARD STARK’S PARKER the HUNTER (IDW), ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN ULTIMATE COLLECTION Vol 2 (Marvel), and finally the FCBD IRON MAN/THOR one shot (Marvel). Episode 2.9: Super Show 2010 and other Musings

April 29, 2010 under Podcasts

The reports of the demise of the Drawerbox have been greatly exaggerated… even in this episode! Don’t fret about my rambling on about podfading because the Drawerbox isn’t going anywhere!

This episode is Frankenstein’s Monster in that it has been assembled from parts recorded at different times over the last month. I try making up for this monstrosity by including some fun musical interludes including samples of Paolo Nutini’s newest CD that I’m digging on quite a bit lately.

The main thrust of this episode is my adventures at the CGS Super Show, followed up by the usual Recent Reads Rambling that you’ve come to expect, including too many books to even list! Be sure to weigh in on my rant on MIGHTY AVENGERS though! I want to know what people think on how that series is wrapping up!

February 14, 2010 under Podcasts

Time for the annual Best of the Rack episode where Just Bill looks back on his favorite books of the past year.

(And before anyone points it out, yeah I messed up with the music – thematically and without fade in/outs… but I’m too lazy to go back and fix it!)

The Episode 100 Special

March 26, 2009 under Podcasts

It has become customary to celebrate “milestones” in both comics and in comics podcasting, so in this episode we try to mix things up and celebrate Episode 100 by inviting a co-host on for the show.  Due to technical difficulties and personality issues regarding semantics we have some mixed results in that regard but hopefully it will still lead to some pleasant listening!  :)

And never fear – ENTER THE DRAWERBOX returns with a look at Acclaim Comics’ reboot of the Solar character.

And lots of books are talked about in RECENT READS & RANDOM THOUGHTS but I lost my notes and forgot what they were.  So it’s a surprise!  :)

Thanks to John Mayo and comicbookpage.com as always for hosting the podcast.  Also special thanks to  Alexander B. (Teenage Wasteland Podcast) Scott Gardner (Two True Freaks Podcast) Dave Williams (Waiting for the Trade Podcast) and Jason Wood (11 o’Clock Comics Podcast) for their contributions to this episode.
