Episode 83: Let’s Do Lunch!

September 26, 2008 under Podcasts

It is an experimental episode recorded during my lunch break from my desk!

Baltimore Comic Con is upon us.  No time to record a podcast this weekend, so I decided to invite you into my office for lunch to talk about Solar, Man of the Atom, Steve Dillon sketches, more fun with the latest version of Collectorz.com’s Comic Collector, and finally my Recent Reads!

Recent Reads:

  • Y the Last Man TPB #9 & 10
  • Patsy Walker Hellcat #2
  • Astonishing X-Men #26
  • Superman #679
  • Skaar, Son of Hulk #2
  • Air #1
  • Justice League of America #24
  • Final Crisis: Revelations #1
  • Kick Ass #1
  • American Dream #1 & 2
  • Galaxy Quest #1
  • And brief mentions of M.I.M.E.S, Tyrannosaurus Beth, and Titanium Rain #1

The sound levels are a bit wonky in this episode, so apologies for that… but it was weird recording at work with people walking by my office!  No time for sound checks!

Episode 80: Clearing the Deck, the Pre-Supashow Show

September 5, 2008 under Podcasts

The CGS Supashow is upon us, and since I’m sure I’ll come back with lots of new topics and renewed vigor for podcasting, I decided to clear the deck in this episode and talk about a lot of stuff that I had been meaning to get to before now.  Sadly, almost all of these topics deserve more attention than I get to give them in this episode… if you want to hear more on any particular subject, drop me a line at jbcbdb@gmail.com or visit the forum and let me know!

This week:

  • Anticipating the Supashow
  • More Adventures with Collectorz.com Comic Collector Software
  • “Old” Readers versus “Modern” Readers
  • John Byrne’s Next Men
  • Broadway Comics
  • Baron and Rude’s Nexus
  • Strangers in Paradise

Hope to see you all at the Supashow!

Episode 79: Malibu II – Electric Boogaloo

August 28, 2008 under Podcasts

Yeah, the episode title makes no sense, sue me.

This week, we continue our look at Malibu, but before we get to that I talk about an exciting update to Collectorz.com Comic Collector software.  4.2 was released yesterday, and a very minor change makes me major happy.

Then we enter the Drawerbox with talk about:

  • Firearm
  • Rune
  • The Solution
  • Night Man
  • Break-Thru
  • Strikeback!

And because I started itching for something other than just Malibu, I also talk about:

  • Anne Rice’s The Mummy or Ramses the Damned (Millennium Comics)
  • Hero Alliance (Innovation Comics)
  • Shades of Gray Comics and Stories (Lady Luck Ltd / Caliber’s Tapestry)

Be sure to look for the forum over at thecomicforums.com and give me your feedback on this or any other episode!

Episode 75: Collectorz.com Comic Collector Revisited and Previews Chop Shop

July 20, 2008 under Podcasts

This time on the drawerbox, Just Bill re-evaluates the software package that he uses to catalog his comics to determine whether he will continue recommending it to his fellow collectors.

(45:30) Next, a lot of podcasts have shows going over what they are ordering every month. Join Bill as he decides what to cut out of his order in an attempt to stay within budget and within the physical parameters of his comic book room.

(1:42:45) The show wraps up with some VERY quick Recent Reads.

Episode 56: Getting Back On Track

January 12, 2008 under Podcasts

After the debacle that was Episode 55, things actually run pretty smoothly this week, I keep the time at a respectable level, I manage to breath successfully all the way through, and hopefully I was able to talk about the controversial HEROES CORNER mail order service without stirring up a hornet’s nest.

This week:

Collectorz.com Comic Collector 4.0 Update

Heroes Corner Mail Order Service or DCBS?

Enter the Drawerbox: Daredevil Vol 1 263 to 291

Recent Reads: Walking Dead Hardcover Book 3,  Thor #5, Captain America #33, Green Lantern #25.

Episode 55: Best of the Rack 2007

January 12, 2008 under Podcasts

Of all the pointless “Best of” podcasts you’ve heard, this is the most pointless of them all!  Not the best comics of the year, not even the bext comics that I’ve read this year… only the best comics that fit on a particular rack!  It makes very little sense, but that’s what it is… DEAL with it!

Also, Forum Feedback, thoughts on Comic Collector 4.0 and the worst nasal congestion ever recorded on a podcast.  Eat your heart out, Jamie D!
