After a three month break, the Drawerbox returns with a bang!
In this episode, lotsa Star Trek talk… from the original series through the Next Generation, Star Trek comics, action figures, and of course, the new movie!
Then, Just Bill takes a trip to revisit the very first comic store he ever stepped foot in! It’s a trip down memory lane!
And finally, it’s all wrapped up with another edition of Recent Reads and Random Thoughts!
Download it! Listen! Savor it! It’s the return of the Drawerbox!!!
It has become customary to celebrate “milestones” in both comics and in comics podcasting, so in this episode we try to mix things up and celebrate Episode 100 by inviting a co-host on for the show. Due to technical difficulties and personality issues regarding semantics we have some mixed results in that regard but hopefully it will still lead to some pleasant listening!
And never fear - ENTER THE DRAWERBOX returns with a look at Acclaim Comics’ reboot of the Solar character.
And lots of books are talked about in RECENT READS & RANDOM THOUGHTS but I lost my notes and forgot what they were. So it’s a surprise!
Thanks to John Mayo and comicbookpage.com as always for hosting the podcast. Also special thanks to Alexander B. (Teenage Wasteland Podcast) Scott Gardner (Two True Freaks Podcast) Dave Williams (Waiting for the Trade Podcast) and Jason Wood (11 o’Clock Comics Podcast) for their contributions to this episode.
The main topic of the episode is whether or not the format in which you read a comic effects your enjoyment of the material. Do you prefer singles, trades, Absolutes, or digital comics? How did the creators believe the work would be consumed? More questions than answers in this one. Listen and then give your two cents on the talkback thread at thecomicforums.com.
Next, some more TV Talk…. Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Hulk Versus, and more.
And this episode’s Recent Reads and Random Thoughts:
Better late than never, right? This episode has been sitting on my laptop for over a week now and I just never got around to posting it. First up, a look at the DCBS spreadsheet for February and what I plan to pick up. Then in Rcent Reads/Random Thoughts:
With nothing planned at all, the main topic of this episode is no topic at all as Just Bill hits record and just starts talking about whatever crosses his mind, which leads to:
An almost ALL comics episode! Just Bill talks about why Secret Invasion #8 may very well be the most important comic he’ll read all year and also talks about:
New Avengers #47 & 48
Mighty Avengers #20
Avengers: The Initiative #19 & 20
Secret Invasion Requiem
Secret Invasion Dark Reign
Dark Reign New Nation
Ms. Marvel #34
Secret Invasion War of Kings
War Machine #1
Punisher #1
Justice Society of America #21 & 22
Ghost Rider #1-20
Despite all appearances this is NOT an episode of Marvel Noise!!!
And we wrap things up with a brief update on TV’s “Leverage” and “Wolverine and the X-Men”
In this extra super-sized edition of the Drawerbox, Just Bill counts down the Top Ten Podcasts that fill his ipod. Following that, a countdown of the television shows programmed into the digital video recorder at Just Bill’s home.
And finally, lotsa comics in Recent Reads and Random Thoughts:
185 Comics made “Best of the Rack” this year and one company dominated the rack. Listen to find out who that publisher is, and what comics made the Rack!
We start things off with a round of thank you’s going out to John Mayo and ComicBookPage.com, Jay Tomio and BookspotCentral.com, Mister D. from thecomicforums.com, and Wayne Cordova of the RadioWayne podcast.
In the main topic of the episode, Just Bill hypothesizes about a Comic Fandom Renaissance and the potential for the coming of a Dark Age in fandom. Is he on to something, or just rambling incoherently? You decide. Everything from the price of comics to comic shop loyalty to podcasts and much is discussed in this one.
To wrap up the episode, Recent Reads are discussed, and more issues of X-O Manowar manage to Enter the Drawerbox.
It’s an action packed episode of the Drawerbox, so download and enjoy!
